A Word of Explanation

Why write? And why this blog?

I am an aspiring writer, with tons of opinions, naturally, but hopefully this blog will not be about any of those opinions, at least, any of those opinions not about fictional works. Instead, this will be a blog about fiction, creativity and writing, coming from someone who is entirely unpublished and not at all knowledgeable about writing.

The word of explanation is about the title of this blog. Even on a human timescale very few words last. The first author we know of is Enheduanna who lived about forty-two hundred years ago, and the first scraps of pictorial writing are only about five-thousand years old. For a species that is over a hundred-thousand years old years old that is a tiny period. And it, naturally, gets even more ridiculous when thinking in geological, or astronomical timescales.

So, despite the ephemeral nature of human writing, my dream, which I will most likely never attain, is to write a few words that are briefly beautiful, before they are extinguished, like embers in a dying fire.
